Nelson at it's Best

Nelson at its Best is a community project aimed at ending poverty in Nelson BC.

Project Highlights To Date:

  • We have learned from and built relationships with people from all sectors of our community, as well as other poverty reduction groups across our region, province, and country.
  • Reviewed and analyzed relevant literature and statistics to gain a better understanding of the issue and how poverty manifests in Nelson.
  • Reached out into the community to learn from and engage residents and organizations in this work.
  • Developed a Poverty Reduction Framework with a set of priorities, strategies, and activities to be undertaken moving forward.

Volunteer Hub

The Volunteer Hub project is aimed at supporting a coordinated approach to enable a thriving local volunteer community.

Project Highlights To Date:

  • We have engaged with other Canadian Volunteer Centres serving similar, smaller, rural, geographically dispersed communities; with the aim of identifying successful models of service delivery, business structure, and funding streams. View Report
  • Reached out to the community with a focus on engaging with Nelson’s volunteer involving organizations and gathering their input on the need for and benefits of a hub in our community. View Report
  • Completed a feasibility study to assess a model for creating a sustainable hub. Nelson’s volunteer community was engaged via several dialogue sessions and surveys. View Outcomes Report  |   Recommendations

SPAN is moving forward by working to secure operational partnerships and to identify a partner umbrella organization to house an online Volunteer Hub to serve our community.
